Problem solving challenge using trial and error. The children were given 8 cubes, 2 cubes in four different colours. They were asked to make them into a big cube, once they’d completed that, could they make a cube with only one block of each colour on each face?

Extension challenge was to work with a friend to turn 27 cubes, 3 cubes in nine different colours, into a massive cube! If they completed that could they do it with only one block of each colour on each face? We had nobody complete that last step of the challenge but we did have everyone have a great try and nobody gave up, with some children continuing to try to solve the problem in their independent learning time!
